Fall… Falling
Fall, a great time of year for so many reasons; crisp air, stunning color, warm comfort food, the best of seasonal farmers markets, stunning flowers….Unfortunately it doesn’t last and the quake of depression sets in upon the arrival of winter. I’ve never met anyone who hates Fall – that’s nice. I’ve never meet anyone who didn’t like orchids either, but I have met many that hate carnations. I wonder why? All I can think of is that FTD and the like have spoiled the flower and abused its simplicity. Daily, as new customers call to place orders, they always start with “please no carnations”. I once read that Yves Saint Laurent would have hundreds of white carnations brought to him weekly for his home and work studio. That’s pretty cool from a man of style. Everything looks great en mass. Try buying bunches of carnations and just see the value of such a misrepresented flower. The trick to change ones mind; don’t over mix them with other things; just mass them out and add some simple, natural movement – also they last much longer than their cousins.
